Edward & Sons Organic Mashed Potatoes - Good or Great?
This ain't your grandma's mashed potatoes
Edward & Sons organic mashed potatoes might not be exactly what you remember from Thanksgiving dinners past, but they might just be better. They are perfect for lazy bachelors like myself who need something quick, easy, and filling. They are also gluten free, which I would care about greatly if I suffered from Celiacs, which I don't, but I've found there are some health benefits to following a gluten-free diet. These mashed potatoes are Kosher and also USDA Organic, which basically means the company has paid some government official to place their stamp of approval on it.
To make these mashed potatoes, start by getting a saucepan. Add water and butter and heat to a boil. Move the saucepan to an unheated burner and add the mashed potato mix from the box while stirring. Add milk to the mix and stir that. This whole process should take about 5 minutes, and it's something even I can do after a long workout when all my body wants to do is lay on the floor and wish for death.
I'll usually eat my mashed potatoes with red meat, preferably a nice big steak from the grocery store, which I grill all year round, even with snow on the ground. I've found that the sudden air temperature changes are good for the body, although I wouldn't recommend it to the elderly.
These boxes make 4 servings of mashed potatoes. I can usually eat at least half in one sitting, so that's two servings for me. Remember to check the serving size before calculating your many calories you're eating, if you're a calorie counter (I am not). Eating a few servings of warm mashed potatoes really hits the spot during the cold winter months, especially after I've been outside jogging for half an hour in gym shorts.
I buy these mashed potatoes online, and they cost me about $2 a box, which works out to about $.50 a serving, which is pretty good. I save some money by buying them regularly (if you "subscribe" to certain grocery products on Amazon you save 15%). Best of all, shipping is free for orders over $25, or all orders if you are a member of Amazon prime, which you probably should think about doing if you're going to buy groceries online like I do.
Overall, I think I like these mashed potatoes better than the Betty Crocker mashed potatoes, but I'll probably continue to buy both and switch things up regularly. I've got to keep my taste buds on their toes (or whatever it is taste buds stand on).
