How to cook asparagus in the microwave

By

Preparing the asparagus

You should have a bunch or two of asparagus. Wash them under cool water until you're satisfied they're clean and don't have any bugs crawling on them.

Cut off the bottom of the stalks. You can actually do this by hand, because the asparagus will naturally break at the correct spot so you don't get stuck trying to eat the tough ends.

Since we're going to be using the microwave, we want the asparagus stalks to be the same diameter to make sure they all cook evenly. You can do this with a paring knife but I would prefer to use a peeler to shave down the thicker stalks.

Now put your stalks in a glass dish, preferably rectangular in shape since the straight stalks will fit better that way. You want to lay them flat so they aren't on top of one another. Fill with water until stalks are completely submerged. Cover the dish with saran wrap, but leave a little opening on one end for steam to vent.

If your microwave has heat settings set it to high and cook for about 3 minutes. Take them out and run cold water over them until they are cool to the touch. They are now ready to eat. Enjoy your asparagus!

The title caught my eye. I really like asparagus, but I would have never considered cooking in the microwave. Does there have to be some water filling the bottom of the pan so it doesn't evaporate? Is the taste the same as on the stove?
