How to kayak

Do you live near a river or the ocean?
Kayaking is one of the most enjoyable solo (or not solo) sports there is. If you live anywhere near a river or the ocean, I highly recommend buying yourself a kayak and giving this activity a try. You can even rent kayaks from many places so you can see if it's for you before you buy.
I really enjoy kayaking alone because it can be so peaceful. When you're out on a calm river in the early morning hours, you experience a calm that's nearly impossible to attain elsewhere in this rush-rush world.
How to kayak and kayaking safety
Kayaking is fun, but there are a few things you should learn before getting out there on the river and searching for whitewater. Make sure you wear a life vest that is US Coast Guard Class type III. If you don't like the vest, there is also a pullover type. If you happen to hit a rock below the surface of the water and get knocked sideways and hit your head on another rock, you'll be glad you have the life vest on. Even the best swimmers in the world can't swim when unconscious.
Some of the basics of kayaking will be explained in the videos I've included below. You will learn how to do the basic forward stroke along with other maneuvers that are essential for kayakers.
