The Stylish Looks of President John F. Kennedy - JFK Style
Why the Kennedy look is timeless
John F. Kennedy was only president for two and a half years, but his legacy as a style icon lives on long after his tragic death. Although most often seen in public with a suit and tie, he was a great casual dresser as well. Whether he was at the Kennedy compound in Massachusetts or out on the ocean in the family yacht, Kennedy knew how to look cool.
In the picture on the right, notice some of Kennedy's bold fashion choices: blue socks, canvas shoes, untucked vibrant t-shirt under a light wool sweater. He tops it off with sunglasses that make him look younger because we don't have to see that infamous Kennedy squint in the glare of the sun.
Dressing down just as important as dressing up
As you can see from these photographs, JFK was just as good at dressing down as he was at dressing up. Just because you aren't going to a black tie event doesn't mean you should dress like a slob. Fit is always important with clothing. Kennedy could look just as presidential wearing a tweed jacket and chinos as he could in a dark suit -- it's all about how he wore it.
